The functions
1.The script
Knowing the script is the starting point for creating the right image of the character
and so the designer must read the script more than once.
2. The concept
Despite the director's word is decisive in choosing a costume, the designer can
realize his ideas based on the director's preferences.
3. The Character
A costume can tell a lot about a character, therefore, working on it, it is very
important to know the temper of the character, his story and some features everything that can be reflected in the appearance.
4. Mood and color
The overall mood of the play, which can be expressed in the color scheme of the
costume, also influences how the costume will.
5. Personality
This paragraph reveals the previous two in more detail: with a right selection of
suit colors, you can create a positive or negative image. For example, an
obnoxious character could wear loud and ostentatious colors and styles while a
quiet character could wear simple colors with little frills.
6. Age
Through the use of color, trimmings, patterns, etc. the costume designer can
subtract or add years from an actor depending on the need for their character.

An essential stage in the creation of any costume is its planning, when, taking into
account certain factors, the designer chooses the most suitable fabric.
8. Notions
They are integral parts of costume when we talk about finishing it. In addition, the
notions are understood as tools that are used in working with fabric.
9. Patterns.
Patterns of basic pieces can help simplify the work on creating a costume. And in
the future, ready-made patterns can be transformed and created something new.
10. Sewing machine, needle, and thread.
Last but not least the tools, that are integral part of the work on costume.
