Annotation. This article presents the basis of the economic theory of the family and the political and
economic content of the family and household. It is substantiated that a family is an object of economic analysis
and an economic institution as well when viewed from the perspective of the economic theory. The theoretical
economic research tolerates underestimation of the importance of the family and disregarding family
relationships as an important structural element of the whole system of social and economic relations and in
economic terms the relations of social reproduction. Meanwhile, the family institution is the backbone of the
society performing a number of important functions that affect the country's economic growth and the dynamics
of socio-economic processes.
