The article deals with the portrayal of the military and political situation in France and the problems
of the union between Russia and France in the Russkie Vedomosty newspaper in 1914. The largest portion
of the study is about the essays by Belorussov (A.S. Belevsky), a Paris-based reporter of the newspaper.
The purpose of the article is to explore the Russkie Vedomosty’s attitude towards the relationships between
Russia and France in the broader context of the liberal press on the edge of the First World War.
