2) Сообщение задач урока
II. Основная часть урока

Ознакомление учащихся с новым грамматическим явлением «Gerund». (на
английском языке с переводом некоторых слов)
If you want to express your fears, in English we have the construction “to be afraid of”
As you can see, in Russian we express our fears through the verb, but in English it is a
mixture of the verb “to be” plus the adjective “afraid” and, finally, plus the preposition
“of”.
Here on the slide you can see some examples
As you can see we have the verb “to be” in different forms. Let’s revise them. I will
throw this ball to each of you and you say the correct answer.
we _
they _
dogs_
my sister_
etc.
Well done, guys! So you see, that the verb “to be” depends on the subject of the sentence.
I AM afraid of this dog. This dog IS not afraid of me. You can see the table on the slide.
After this construction we can use either nouns or gerunds, like in Russian
Let’s start with nouns. Let’s each of us say what we are afraid of. I will start.
“I am afraid of height”. What about you, Kate?...
When in Russian we express our fears with verbs like “Я боюсь плавать”, in English we
should use gerund (V1+ing), you remember this topic, don’t you?
For example, I say a verb and you altogether make up a gerund. Play, cry, fight, swim,
jump, dance, sing… Let’s see it in the construction.
I am afraid of flying.
They are afraid of visiting doctors.
In pairs ask your partner about his fear.
Well done!
But we can also say what we are not afraid of, right? We just need to put “not” after “to
be”.
Well, you can see some pictures in the slide, and you need to say what these characters
are afraid of and also what they are not afraid of.

Контроль понимания
Teacher says: Do you have any questions concerning the construction “to be afraid of
someone/something”?
Students respond.
Now let`s have some practice.
