Welcome to the ANSYS Simplorer application Advance training course! This training section covers some Advance topics of using ANSYS Simplorer in performing electrical systems analyses. It is intended for those that have taken the introduction class, or have Simplorer experience Course Objectives: – – – – – Understanding the different aspects of Models and Library Management Viewing and Post Processing of simulation results, using probes, and FFT Analysis Parametric Sweep Analysis Statistical Analysis Optional subjects • IGBT Characterization © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 3 Simplorer v11 Models and Library Management © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 4 Simplorer v11 Library Concepts Library items that are placed on a schematic have several “Definitions” associated with them • • • – These are placed in Definitions folders in the Project Manager window. “Model” definition represents the characteristic equations of the item “Symbol” definition defines the symbol attributes “Components” definition is a wrapper that ties all the definitions together © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 5 Simplorer v11 Library Concepts cont’d When an item is exported to a library, each definition gets placed in its associated library – *.aclb – component library, *.aslb – symbol library, *.asmd – model library Once an item is placed on the schematic, all the definitions transfers from the library to the project file as “local” definitions – located in the project manager window Definitions are not edited in the library, but in the project. If the edits are to be reflected back to the library definitions, user must “export” the edited definitions to the library © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 6 Simplorer v11 Library Concepts cont’d Note if an item is removed from the schematic, its definitions will still remain in the project definitions folders. To clean up unused definitions, use menu (Project -> Remove Unused Definitions), select all, Apply, and repeat until none are left. © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 7 Simplorer v11 Library Concepts cont’d Note because local definitions are used first, if a user is given updated library files with new definitions, need to update the local definitions to reflect the newer ones from the new library using the menu (Tools -> Update Definitions). © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 8 Simplorer v11 Library Directories The stock library files that ship with Simplorer v11 are stored under the directory …/Simplorer11.0/windows/syslib. These libraries are intended to be read-only In addition to the system libraries, Simplorer recognizes two userconfigurable libraries, the “userlib”, and “PersonalLib”. – Userlib is usually created to be shared within a company – PersonalLib is usually created to be used only by the individual user © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 9 Simplorer v11 Specifying Location of Library Directories The library file locations can be edited using the menu (Tools -> Options -> General Options), then select the “Project Options” © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 10 Simplorer v11 Library Search Order Note the search order for the definitions are 1) Project definitions (Local definitions) 2) PersonalLib 3) UserLib 4) Syslib © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 11 Simplorer v11 Configuring Libraries If user is given library files (*.aclb – component library, *.aslb – symbol library, *.asmd – model library), in order to use these libraries in a project, they need to be “Configured” • Use the menu (Tools -> Configure Libraries). • – Note each definition library needs to be configured Use the >> button to add a selected library to the “Configured Libraries” column. – The icon for the newly configured library turns green. Note select “Save as default” if desire to have these libraries show up each time Simplorer is invoked © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 12 Simplorer v11 Translating legacy libraries (pre v8) Libraries created in simplorer v7 (*.smd files) were in different formats and need to be translated to be used in newer versions of Simplorer. – The process is to simply use File -> open, or drag and drop the *.smd file into the project manager window. Note the same process can be done to convert v7 designs (*.ssh files) © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 13 Simplorer v11 Model Import Note there are several types of Models that can be imported directly into simplorer using menu (Tools -> Import Simulation Models) • • • • – custom symbols can then be created, and these models could then be exported into user or personal libraries VHDL-AMS SPICE SML (Simplorer Model Language) C code models In addition, models can be imported from other ANSYS tools © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 14 Simplorer v11 WS10 Lab Overview Flow In this lab, a new project and design in Simplorer is created create a path for a personal library import existing simplorer libraries to this personal library folder “configure” this new library to be used in the design import a VHDL-AMS and Spice model, view them in their respective model editors, create symbols “export” these models to the previously imported library that now exist in the personal library Create a circuit with these components and simulate. © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 15 Simplorer v11 WS10 Lab Demo Open new Simplorer Observe how to create a path for a personal library copy existing simplorer “legacy” libraries to this personal library folder “configure” this new library to be used in the design import the irf520n MOSFET Spice model, view in model editor, create symbol based on existing MOSFET symbol from Simplorer’s library “export” the spice model to a new personal library Clean up the project definitions (Project -> Remove Unused Def…) © 2013 ANSYS, Inc. 16 Simplorer v11
