Find a name for each pose. This pose is named Yeti,
because the overall shape of the pose reminds me of a
“Y.” I matched all poses and letters using my subjective
intuition. Everyone will probably find other letters in the
poses and should choose appropriate names.

silk cape. When he gave her a kiss she
had a rose in her hand, which pierced a
poisonous thorn into his knee. He fainted and fantasized about being in the
middle of a desert in an oasis. With a
vacuum pump, he raised so much water from the soil, that even the desert
sand became vital and he was suddenly
surrounded by nature. He climbed a hill
and saw from there a hip surfer when
he zoomed towards the sea. In a blink
he also saw that he had to start a flight
because a tsunami was moving in his
direction and would turn the oasis into
a lagoon.
This pose contains the shape of a “P,” therefore I
gave it the name “Pool.”
My own story goes like this:
On a hot sunny day the Yeti jumps into
the pool. At the bottem he finds an anchor. This seems to be a strong magnet.
A captain is sticking to it because he has
implanted a metal plate in his back. Behind it lay the capsized boat. This ship
had a vampire on board, which had been
burnt by the sun and thus had burned a
hole in the hull. Previously, he had driven across the Atlantic to visit and bite
his first love on a volcano island. For
this purpose, he had put on his finest
This example is named “Anchor” because the
shape of the pose reminds me of an “A.”

With such a crazy story, you easily get
the poses into your head. But perfection
is reached only when the poses have become secondnature to you. For this purpose, the best you can do is give them a
couple of dry runs. You practise by bringing yourself into these poses in exactly
the right order. Do not worry, you don‘t
have to take pictures of yourself and you Vividly imagining the Yeti jumping into a swimprobably don‘t need an audience. But ming pool and finding an anchor at the bottom is
if you do that a few times, then posing so crazy that it is hard to forget. Illustration: Kai

the wall, which is on the right side as
seen from your camera. In later chapters, you will then use the other wall in
the corner and the floor. Of course you
can always use poses in a mirrored way.
What works toward the right will also
work toward the left. You are also free
to replace the floor with a bed for the
respective poses. You can make your
life easy by simply applying the poses
exactly the way they are shown here,
especially in the beginning.

Lighting Setup and Camera Settings
The photos in this book were consistently illuminated with two speedlights. One
of the speedlights was inside an octabox while the second was used without a
lightmodifier. Depending on the pose, the lights have been moved around, but in
most cases we followed the structure of the diagram below.
1. Model posing at the wall
2. Corner of the room
3. Phottix Luna Octabox with Mitros+ speedlight, manual mode at 1/32 power, 45° angle towards
the model
4. Mitros+ speedlight without modifier at 1/32 power directed into the corner of the room
5. Canon 5D MK III, 1/200 s, ISO 100, 50mm prime lens, f/2.8
