The purpose of today’s presentation is to discuss major players in food and beverage industry. Now let me begin by explaining that I would like briefly to talk about the meaning of the word ‘major player’; secondly, I want to cover some facts about food and beverage industry; and finally, I would like to finish off by talking about concrete examples of these major players. It is vital to note that a major player is an important and successful company, especially when compared with other, smaller companies in the same type of business or industry. It is known that, the global food and beverage industry is now worth over US$ 8 trillion, representing more than 10% of the world’s GDP, according to a report from Plunkett Research. Despite the sluggish economy and plunging food and beverage prices experienced by some of the major markets over recent years, the overall global food and beverage industry is still growing at a steady pace, led by some of the world’s largest food & beverage companies. Moreover, according to the 2017 Forbes Global 2000, Swiss food giant Nestle continues to hold the top spot as the world’s largest food company in 2017, followed by American beverage manufacturers PepsiCo and Coca-Cola rounding out the top three for the world’s largest food & beverage companies list. In addition to this, Nestle has been dominating the global food and beverage industry for nearly three consecutive years. It means that in 2017, the world-famous chocolate and sweets manufacturer Nestle continues to lead the list of world’s largest food & beverage companies, exceeding US$ 90 billion in revenue and $8.6 billion in profits over the last fiscal year. In addition to the above, here is the list of the top 10 food & beverage companies in the world in 2017. However, I will talk in detail only about the three giants of this industry. 1. Nestlé has always been one of the world’s largest food & beverage companies. Now it has over 328,000 (3 hundred 28 thousand) employees and more than 2000 brands ranging from global icons to local favorites presenting in 191 (1 hundred 91) countries around the world. 2. Founded in 1965, PepsiCo is one of the largest beverage companies in the US. With over 264,000 (2 hundred 64 thousand) employees, PepsiCo has a complementary food and beverage portfolio that includes 22 brands, and each generated more than $1 billion in estimated annual retail sales in 2016. 3. One of the world’s most valuable and recognizable brands, Coca-Cola company’s portfolio features 21 billion-dollar brands. Through its world’s largest beverage distribution system, Coca-Cola is also the world’s leading provider of both sparkling and still beverages. More than 1.9 billion servings of beverages made by Coca-Cola are enjoyed by consumers in more than 200 (2 hundred) countries. To conclude I think we have acquainted and learned a little better about the major players of the food and beverage industry. May I thank you all being such an attentive audience. Now I’d like to invite your comments.
