My hometown Vladimir
has always been rich in
famous people. Some of
them are known in our
country, others are
known all over the world.
I’d like to tell you about
Ivan Efimovich Zhukov.

to follow. They are fans of
famous people such as
sportsmen, singers, actors.
But often the youth
doesn’t know outstanding
people living next door.
Purpose
The purpose of my
research is to collect
information about
a prominent person –
Zhukov I.E.,
the Hero of
the Soviet Union.
Tasks
I should:
 Find information about Zhukov’s childhood
and youth;
 Clear up how airplanes and sky have
become his passion;
 Learn about Zhukov’s education and
career;
 Find out the circumstances of his becoming
a hero;
 Get to know about Zhukov’s life
after finishing military career.

Since May 18, 2005 our
school has been named
after the Hero of the
Soviet Union Zhukov
Ivan Efimovich.
Teachers and pupils of
our school are proud of
this fact.
Zhukov I. E. was born
on December 31st, 1934 in
Vladimir. His family was rather
poor. There were 4 children in
the family. His eldest brother
Mikhail died in 1943 during
the Great Patriotic War.
Ivan Zhukov studied at school
№ 2, he finished it in 1953.
When Ivan was a school-boy
he was keen on the sky and he
began to study at the Vladimir
air club. Those years a lot of
young
men
becoming
dreamed
pilots
and
of
they
attended air clubs. In the club
Ivan
studied
parachute
jumping and piloting.
In 1953 Zhukov I.E.
piloted his first
airplane,
it was Уак - 18.
After finishing school Zhukov
entered the pilots’ military school
in Orenburg, then in Syzran. At the
age of 22 he became a professional
military pilot. He served in the Air
Forces of our country and went on
his education in the Air Forces
Academy named after У. А.Gagarin
(in Monino, not far from Moscow)
Zhukov finished Academy
in 1967.
In 1977 Zhukov I.E.
was honoured with
the Order of the Red Star
for testing an
airplane MiG- 23.
In 1982 Zhukov I. E. with other
pilots tested a new supersonic
airplane MiG-25. Something was
wrong with this kind of airplanes.
Three of them had already crushed.
At the height of 17,000 metres pilots
heard a strange sound. They realized
that the situation was crucial.
Zhukov decided to land the airplane
by all means.
It is unbelievable but Zhukov
managed to land the airplane.
The reason of the defect was an
oversight of engineers who had
constructed the plane. For this great
deed Zhukov was honoured with the
medal “The Golden Star” of
the Hero of the Soviet Union and
the Order of Lenin.
In 1988 Zhukov I.E. finished
his military career. At present
Ivan Efimovich has more spare
time for his family (he has got a
wife, a son and a daughter and
three grandchildren). He is
fond of sport and his favourite
hobby is taking pictures of
nature.
Zhukov I.E. is really a great example to
follow for us. We are happy that pupils
and teachers of our school have an
opportunity to communicate with Ivan
Efimovich during his visits. We like to
congratulate him on his birthdays.
There is a tradition in our school to
arrange reading conferences on his
book “I’m from Vladimir”. And also
one of the prides of our school is the
museum of Zhukov I.E.
