RESEARCH
My MSc thesis was devoted to the development of oriented films from the gel of
ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in ultralow amounts of solvent. Multistage hot orientation method with a draw ratio up to 35 was used to fabricate UHMWPE films
with the degree of crystallinity up to 94%( determined by DSC), tensile strength and modulus
0.9 GPa and 35 GPa respectively for films with draw ratio 35.
My Specialist Degree final year project was on thermal stability of multilayer
nanostructural coatings Ti-Al-Si-N. It is shown that after heat treatment in a vacuum at a
temperature of 900 С the phase composition of the Ti-Al-Si-N coating, characterized by
presence of nc-TiN, nc-AlN, and a-Si3N4, remains unchanged. The multi-layer architecture and
the modulation period of this coating with no blurring of the boundaries of the layers are
preserved.
Thanks to these experiences I have acquired various lab skills, including synthesis and
characterization of new materials, and mastered such instrumental techniques as XRD, TEM,
SEM, DSC, TGA and also learned to erase the mechanical and tribological properties of coatings
and polymer composite materials.
