Different Places People Live
People live in different places
in our world. Click on one of
the pictures to find out more
about the place.
Countryside
Some people live in the countryside. These areas may have
lots of different trees, plants and animals living there. These
homes may not have many other buildings near to them.
Village
Some people live in a village. A village is smaller than a
town. It has homes and sometimes some other buildings like
shops and a place of worship. It may even have a
playground. Have you ever been to a village?
Town
Some people live in towns. Towns are bigger than villages.
These have lots of different types of buildings, including
houses, shops and schools. Do you live in a town? What
kind of buildings do you have in your town?
City
Some people live in a
city. Cities are busy
places. There are many
shops, places to live,
schools and things to
see and do. There are
often a lot of different
types of transport.

Some Different Places People Live in
People live in all different kinds of homes. Click on one of the pictures
to find out more about this type of house.
Bungalow
This is a bungalow.
Bungalows don’t
normally have
stairs and they are
all on one level.
Detached House
This is a detached house. This house
stands on its own and isn’t joined to
any other buildings. Detached houses
sometimes have their own gardens
and garages and they have an
upstairs as well as a downstairs floor.
Semi-Detached House
This is a semi-detached house. It has another house joined onto it on one
side. One family lives on one side and another lives on the other side.
We live here.
Our family
lives here.
Terraced House
These houses are all joined
together. They are called
terraced houses. Do you
know anyone that lives in
a house like this?
Cottage
Cottages tend to be older buildings that
can be found in the countryside, but you
can find them in villages and towns too.
This one has a thatched roof. Have you
ever seen a thatched roof? What do you
think it might be like to live here?
Flats or Apartments
These homes are called flats or apartments.
They are stacked on top of each other.
Often, to get to a flat, you share a corridor,
staircase or lift with the other people in the
building. Sometimes they have a balcony.
Here are a few other types of
home people live in.
Can you think of any other
types of home?
What other types of home do
you have in your community?
Homes give us somewhere to:
prepare food
clean ourselves
sleep
shelter from the weather
We don’t all live in the same type
of home. You might live:
on a different street to
your friends;
in a different city or town
to your friends;
in a different type of home
to your friends;
or even in a different country
to your friends!
We are all different and we may
have different homes…
…but we all live together as part of our world!
Think About…
What type of home do you live in?
How is it the same and how is it different
to your friends’ homes?
What makes your home special?
Where would you like to live in the future?
Can you describe it to your friend?
