completed by a 2nd year student Olesya Pilipenko A microplastic is any piece of polymer smaller than 5 mm in size. Most often, it is formed as a result of the erasure of large pieces of material released into the environment. Ingested microplastic particles damage organs and release dangerous chemicals inside the body. This effect disrupts the protective functions of the body, as well as stops the growth and reproduction of cells. Both microplates and the chemicals they release accumulate in the food chain, potentially affecting entire ecosystems, including the health of the soils in which we grow our food. * Do not buy water in plastic bottles, drink filtered water, carry a reusable bottle with you. * Use dishes made of food grade plastic only. * Do not buy cosmetics with microplastics, for example, scrubs and shower gels with plastic abrasive particles, cosmetics with sequins, glitter. * Reduce the number of disposable plastic packaging, dishes and bags, and recycle them. * If possible, avoid synthetic clothing. Wash synthetics on a fast cycle and in cold water. * Travel less by private car. If we pay attention to this problem, then together we can reduce the spread of plastic into the environment, thereby preventing microplastics from killing us! .
