L.Outhwaite Bells Farm Primary School Instructions: Photocopy the sheets onto card and cut up. Attach 2 paper clips to each card. Have a pile of paper clips available for further ‘energy’. Give each child a card and ask that they read it out. Discuss with the class which cards are decomposers and explain what this means. Remind the class about producers and consumers. Set rules – when sun is up they may ask their food source for a paper clip ( max of 3 different sources each ‘day’ When sun goes down all animals must give up 1 paper clip to signify losing energy through movement and respiration Each producer can ask the sun (teacher) for 3 clips each day Run the game a few times giving approx 2-3 min for each day Extension; Explain the plants have all caught a disease and that when they lose their energy they must give up the card and sit down as they cannot produce any more food.
