SOCIALISM AND
CHRISTIANITY
PERFORMED BY ALINA BUYANOVA
THE SOCIALIST IDEA DATES BACK TO THE
SIXTEENTH CENTURY, WHEN THE FIRST SOCIALIST
UTOPIA OF THOMAS MORE WAS WRITTEN.
CHRISTIANITY AND SOCIALISM HAVE A DIFFICULT
HISTORY OF RELATIONSHIPS.
 Before Marx, socialism was not
tightly connected with atheism.
 The term "socialism" appeared in
the 30s. 19th century in France. At
that time, it was Christians who
preached socialist doctrine.
A.I. HERZEN WROTE:
Socialism is «a society
without government,
the fulfillment of
Christianity and the
implementation of
revolutions».
THE BASIC IDEAS OF SOCIALISM DERIVE FROM
CHRISTIAN CULTURE.
1) «in everything you want people to do with
you, so do you with them»
2) «love your neighbor as yourself»
But in the rational nineteenth
century, socialism inherited from the
Enlightenment rational-scientific
argumentation, turning into social
science, a kind of social engineering.
