The problems of teaching Scripture and the language of divine service in the
Roman Catholic Church at the beginning of XX century in Belarus.
The author concludes that the basic document, which concerns the changes of
tsarist government in and around public religious policy with respect to the
Roman Catholic Church, was the addict of Nicholai II “About the strengthening
of religious toleration`s bases”, the 17th of April, 1905. Though, the edict
retained some contradictions, and among them is the following one: which
language is considered to be native for church members and which is the
language of divine service. This problem is analyzed on source foundation from
the National Historical Archive in Grodno and the National Historical Archive
in Minsk.

The main issue of this article is connected with the problem of choice of the
language for teaching of Scripture and the language of divine service in the
Roman Catholi Church in Belarus at the beginning of XX century. The main
periods of national confessional politics of tsarist autocracy in relation to Roman
Catholic Church at the beginning of XX century are denoted and characterized
in this article.
