The article presents a detailed periodisation of the architectural history of New China. The Chinese
architecture of 1949–1959 was characterised by three architectural tendencies: stylised design,
neofunctionalism and «late neoclassics». The conducted compositional analysis of constructions representing
the neoclassic tendency has made it possible to allocate the four directions of shaping: «mixed style», «Su
style», «New folk architecture» and «1959 style», which possesses features and attributes that are immanent
in the system of the traditional Chinese architecture Gou Jia and the European order system.
